Blefaroplasty
Cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) usually occurs with middle age and with the effect of gravity, loosening, excess and sagging of the skin occurs in the upper and lower eyelids, and there may be sagging, especially in the lower eyelids, with herniated fatty tissues towards the front.
In addition to causing aesthetic disturbances, this situation can prevent vision by closing the front of the eye with the upper eyelids drooping.
Before the surgery
First of all, sight and eye examination is performed. Previous surgeries, chronic illnesses, and medications you use are questioned. In particular, blood thinners may need to be stopped or rearranged before surgery.
Operation
The surgery is performed in hospital conditions, under the supervision of an anesthetist and in the operating room. The method of local anesthesia and intravenous sedation (sleeping through the vein) is preferable. Depending on the patient’s current complaints, only the upper or lower eyelid or both the lower and upper eyelids can be operated at the same time. The operation takes an average of 1-1.5 hours. It is possible to go home the same day.
During the operation, excess skin is removed, the herniated adipose tissue is redistributed and the opposite membrane is strengthened. There is a scar on the upper eyelid along the lid. However, this track is not noticeable as it will be adapted to the fold of the cover. On the lower eyelid there is a scar just below the lashes. It is not noticeable under the lashes.
Postoperative
The early period after surgery usually passes at ease. Swelling is reduced with cold application. He is discharged the same day. Only eye drops are applied. There may be swelling and bruising around the eyes. The stitches are removed after 3-5 days.
The person can return to work after 3 days. If you are using it, you can wear your contact lenses after 1 week.
Things to know
The patient may not be able to close their eyes completely in the first few days. These are expected events that pass on their own within the first week. The aesthetics of the upper eyelid are not suitable, especially if there is a drooping eyebrow. Lower eyelid aesthetics will be much more effective when done with a mid-face lift.
