Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty

Men and women who cannot diet and exercise, have sagging abdominal skin but have smooth bodies are candidates for this surgery.

This surgery is especially useful in women who have given birth multiple times, have cracks and sagging in the abdominal skin, and have weakened abdominal muscles and people after weight loss.

Patients who want to lose weight and people who are still losing weight should postpone this surgery. Women intending to give birth should also postpone this operation until after giving birth. A tummy tuck surgery will increase your appearance and self-esteem, but it will not provide you with an ideal appearance or eliminate other problems that require treatment. Abdominoplasty surgery is not a method of losing weight.

Before the surgery

You should stop smoking 4 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery (increases the chance of complications).

We will ask you if you have already undergone abdominal surgery. If you are using medications, especially blood thinners (aspirin), chronic diseases (diabetes, etc.) will be questioned.

A hernia (hernia) in the anterior abdominal wall should be examined with a physical examination. Or imaging methods are used. Previous varicose treatment or vascular disorder occupies an important place in preoperative planning.

 Abdominoplasty Operation

  • Complete abdominal stretching surgery (abdominoplasty)
  • Partial abdominal stretching surgery (mini-abdominoplasty)

It is an operation that takes about 2-3 hours under general anesthesia. Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure in which excess fat and sagging skin tissue in the middle and lower abdomen is removed and the abdominal muscles are stretched and strengthened. With this surgery, the appearance of the fatty belly and abdomen improves, but the scar from the surgery is permanent. In partial abdominoplasty, the incision line is shorter and the navel cannot be changed. It is similar in length to the cesarean scar. In full abdominoplasty, during surgery, the abdominal skin and underlying muscles from the groin to the ribs stiffen. If there is a weakness or hernia in the abdominal muscles, it is corrected and the excess skin is cut. After the operation, it is closed with hidden stitches and covered with dressings. One or two tubes called drains can be placed under the skin to absorb excess fluid that will be collected in the area. The liposuction method can also be added to the body contour correction. At the end of the operation a corset is used.

Postoperative

Swelling and pain in the abdomen may occur in the first few days which can be controlled with pain relievers. The discharges will stay in the body for an average of 1-3 days and resorbable stitches are used.

You have to stay in the hospital on average 1-3 days.

You can go back to work after 2 weeks. The scar may appear to get worse for the first 3-6 months, but this is normal, it may take 9 months to 1 year for the scars to flatten.

Things to know

Although it does not disappear completely, the scar can easily be hidden under this bikini as well. Partial or total abdominoplasty procedures create excellent results for patients with abdominal muscle weakness or serial failures.

In most patients, excellent results can be maintained for years with regular exercise and diet. Vacuum fat removal (liposuction) can be considered an alternative in people of normal weight if there is good quality tight skin and limited fat accumulation and if the abdominal wall is intact.

Diet and exercise programs can also be effective in reducing total body fat, but they do not affect sagging skin. Unexpected but possible events after surgery, which are called risks and possible complications, also carry the risks of surgery in alternative treatments.

Complications in skin loss and wound healing are more common in smokers. Due to aging, pregnancy and weight gain and loss, changes in the body profile may develop outside the operating area.
